I was blessed with straight, smooth, shiny long black hair as a child, then teenage years came and I learned I can cut my hair short, as in short bobs, then the curse of the thick coarse wavy hair appeared as it started to grow... Right on time when you have the need to make "pa-cute"... Thank you Universe!
Since the late years during college I've been getting hair treatments- hair straightening/relaxing then finally moved on to getting it rebonded at about every six months. Yes, I would set aside a whole day of sitting on a salon chair while stylists would strain their arms ironing my thick hair straight. I eventually would sometimes get lobs (long bobs) or have my bangs shortened after hours of rebonding just so I'd have a different and low maintenance look. But then, pregnancy came and I had to skip hair coloring and rebonding for almost a year, not that my OB advised against it, but I'd rather just put my hair in a ponytail and be safe.
A couple of months after giving birth, I was ready for a makeover, but was hesitant to get a rebond because one, I needed my hair up everytime I'm with my baby, and two,I don't have the luxury to spend the whole day in a salon anymore...and not be able to wash my hair for three days. After some research and asking my bestfriend (several times) on what to do with my hair, I decided to get a perm. Yes, the very one hair type I've been avoiding.
The stylist was actually kind of hesitant to give me a perm because I still have rebonded hair and it was still damaged and dry but after some persuading (okay, a lot lol), he said yes, and gave me a perm...the end result-- curly hair that I can put up and let down without worrying of "the dent" or me looking like Cousin It. I love how it looked on me, making me feel a bit different and helped me gain more self confidence, yes, really, no exaggerations. People said I looked good with curly hair too. I guess I've always been a "kulot" girl inside hehe.
However, curly hair didn't equate with low maintenance hair, and I eventually ended with frizzy hair-- thus, the hair care research. I started treating my hair with hot oil treatments at home, and using damage repair shampoo and conditioner--I have used Dove and Pantene. I have yet to try those shampoos made specifically for permed hair, the choices at Watson's wasn't as extensive as I had hoped. As for styling, I used to use Vitresse to lessen the frizz but it won't last the whole day. I recently discovered Monea Curl Defining Milk and it is really great-- it holds the curls, makes my hair look less frizzy and it doesn't smell bad, and it's cheap too for only PhP 99 per bottle at Watson's.
I still have to explore other hair care products to manage my new hair. If you have suggestions or recommendations, please let me know 😊
